STAGE 2
COMPOSITE SURFACE PLANKS

After the LumberCon stage, only the surface planks were replaced with composite decking over the existing LumberCon substructure. Under the conditions shown, the composite planks visibly failed in under six minutes.
This was a two-stage visual demonstration, not a standardized laboratory test. The materials were installed at different spans, and the composite stage may not represent manufacturer-recommended installation spacing. See the full method below.
See the Fire Demonstration
We believe building materials should prove their performance, not simply promise it. We constructed a complete deck from LumberCon and exposed it to fire for 60 minutes while the surface planks supported 384 pounds. When the fire was extinguished after one hour, the LumberCon deck showed no signs of failure.
How the Demonstration Was Conducted
This was a single deck used in a two-stage demonstration, not two matching decks burning side by side. The LumberCon supporting structure remained in place throughout both stages. Only the surface planks were changed.

Complete LumberCon Deck
We began by constructing a complete deck from LumberCon, including both the surface planks and supporting structure. The surface planks spanned 3 feet and supported 384 pounds. The deck was exposed to fire for 60 minutes. When the fire was extinguished after one hour, the LumberCon planks remained intact and showed no signs of failure.

Composite Surface Planks
After the LumberCon stage, we removed only the surface planks and installed composite decking over the existing LumberCon supporting structure. The composite surface planks were installed at a 24-inch span and visibly failed in under six minutes under the conditions shown.
This demonstration documents how the materials visibly performed under the specific conditions shown. It was not a standardized laboratory test or an equal-condition product comparison. The materials were installed at different spans, and the composite stage may not represent manufacturer-recommended installation spacing. LumberCon’s independent laboratory test results are provided separately below.
Material Choice Matters in Fire-Prone Environments
Outdoor structures can influence how fire moves around a property. Materials that ignite, weaken, or collapse may create additional hazards. LumberCon is made from high-strength concrete reinforced with steel wires, so its fire performance does not depend on an applied coating or treatment that can wear away.

Noncombustibility Is Part of the Material
The planks are made from high-strength concrete and reinforced with steel wires. Unlike products that rely on an applied surface treatment, LumberCon’s fire performance does not depend on a coating that must be maintained.
